They call me The Average Jim. Honestly, you can just call me Jim but I professionally go by TAJ these days. It just kind of happened that way. A joke that became an actual business model!
I got my start way back in the early 1990’s working as a photographer. I lucked into a gig photographing models for an agency who sent a lot of models to men’s magazines so I was working with bikini and nude models while pursuing my acting/theater career in college. That really didn’t go far. Just a few small gigs, a cool write up about me in the LA times, and those were the glory days of my acting career.
I kept up with my photography gig and because of my work in acting I started taking head shots for my actor friends and this led to more and more work. Pretty soon I was shooting weddings, head shots, fashion editorials, glamour editorials and eventually (many years later) I ended up being Hugh Hefner’s body double…. but that is another story for another time!
In the middle of my photography career I somehow managed to have a music career as well as hone my craft as a carpenter. I played in local bands, started my own band, went on small tours, played for an indie label, recorded, did some session work as a guitarist and got to meet some really awesome people and play some amazing gigs! I still play music on a local level, host an Open Jam and work with new musicians and every now and then still do some session work for the right people. Not for the money, but I like to work with people who share the same vision.
I’m nobody famous. I don’t really have the desire to be. I just love creating art, music, photographs and love sharing it all with the world. I have photographed thousands of people in my time as a photographer. Everything from newborn babies to fashion, nude glamour work, fine art, weddings, portraits, government portraits and the list continues to porn stars, Miss USA, a Playmate of The Year, several other Playboy models, semi-famous people but not famous enough to list their names to make me sound cool. I just dig what I get to do. It really is that simple.
This site is my departure from the norm. This is my venture into becoming a full time artist. I am unsure of what will actually happen for me with this new work, but I hope you enjoy it. I know I will!
Thanks for visiting and reading my ramblings. Adventure is out there! 😉
